Oh Deer!

“She sees arise

The second time.

From the sea, the earth,

Completely green.

The cascades fall,

The eagle soars,

From lofty mounts

Pursues its prey.”

Octopus

While on a ferry to Ireland a couple of months ago I was inspired by the waves and landscape to digitally paint this image, featuring this quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Below the thunders of the upper deep,

Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,

His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep

The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee

About his shadowy sides; above him swell

Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;

And far away into the sickly light,

From many a wondrous grot and secret cell

Unnumbered and enormous polypi

Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.

There hath he lain for ages, and will lie

Battening upon huge sea worms in his sleep,

Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;

Then once by man and angels to be seen,

In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

New products added this week!

I’ve added some new products to my Etsy store

I’ve added the badges I designed in conjunction with the Kickstarter campaign for our comic. People who bought a physical copy received the whole set of pins for free, now people who missed out can get the set for just £2 here

The creatures featured are:

Angler Fish

Honeycomb eel

Goblin shark

Giant Pacific octopus

Creatures of the Deep pin set

Assorted steampunk gears

Made from upcycled brass and silver coloured gears with silver plated studs. Perfect for steampunk fans!

Cuttlefish earrings

I’ve also added these lovely hand drawn cuttlefish earrings. I drew these on shrink plastic myself and I’m really happy with how they’ve turned out!  Those of you who follow my blog are probably aware of my octopus obsession already, so I’m sure you can understand why I’d make these beauties!

Animal skull studs

Because I love biology so much I made these lovely animal studs. There’s a choice of Owl, Bear and Bull skulls and they all look really cool. Again these are hand drawn into shrink plastic by myself. I personally like the Owls the best!

Inktober day 6

I watched an awesome BBC documentary on rare deep sea sharks last night (Legemds of the deep: deep sea sharks available on iplayer currently) with David Attenborough doing commentary. I thought they were beautiful and scary in a primordial way and I just needed to draw them (another ocean obsessed drawing under my belt)

Sharks in order:

Frilled shark

Goblin shark

Bluntnose sixgill shark

Megamouth shark.

The first image is drawn in derwent 1.0 fineliner and I’m really happy with the results and layout. I kinda wanted an encyclopaedia/ indie vibe. I may scan this image in and explore print options.

The second image I did not so much part of inktober but more because I got a pentel brush pen today I wanted to play with and get a rougher quality image with a Japanese feel as the pen has a Sumi quality. The hirigana in the corner simply means shark, and the shark is saying Hai because…well I actually think sharks seem pretty friendly and look like they’re just saying hi sometimes 🙂

Animal portrait pendants.

I decided to create a pendant of Felix the car whom I’ve drawn several times on my blog. IMG_3230.JPG

Here’s the original image of him 🙂

I also did one of my good friend’s recently deceased dog Bob.
