Oh Deer!

“She sees arise

The second time.

From the sea, the earth,

Completely green.

The cascades fall,

The eagle soars,

From lofty mounts

Pursues its prey.”

Octopus

While on a ferry to Ireland a couple of months ago I was inspired by the waves and landscape to digitally paint this image, featuring this quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Below the thunders of the upper deep,

Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,

His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep

The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee

About his shadowy sides; above him swell

Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;

And far away into the sickly light,

From many a wondrous grot and secret cell

Unnumbered and enormous polypi

Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.

There hath he lain for ages, and will lie

Battening upon huge sea worms in his sleep,

Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;

Then once by man and angels to be seen,

In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Comic Just Launched!

For anyone who has been interested in the comic pages i’ve been uploading recently. Myself and the writer have just decided to launch the comic via Kickstarter to raise funds to get it printed. We’ve decided to launch it as the first title of our comics label Frisson Comics and hope to have copies available at future conventions!

Watercolours

Had a little play with water couples last night after not touching them for quite a long time. I forgot how versatile they are and how even kinda crappy pictures can be fixed with a dash of colour!

I decided to redraw my mermaid who I previously drew digitally which was fun to do although it’s definitely not my best picture I’ve ever drawn. I had fun doing the textures on her hair and face however and like how some of the colours have blended

I also did a study of a scorpion fish I saw at an aquarium that I’m fairly happy with, though the line work could be a lot nicer.

Mermaid Project.

Myself and one of my oldest friends Rebecca Taylor are currently working on a project together, we’re drawing mermaids inspired by the months of the year (and also special occasions) so far we’ve created 4 mermaids in different styles.

January- Narwhal mermaid by Rebecca

February- ringed seal mermaid by myself

March- Blue whale mermaid by Rebecca

April- Jellyfish mermaid by myself
