Octopus

While on a ferry to Ireland a couple of months ago I was inspired by the waves and landscape to digitally paint this image, featuring this quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Below the thunders of the upper deep,

Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,

His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep

The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee

About his shadowy sides; above him swell

Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;

And far away into the sickly light,

From many a wondrous grot and secret cell

Unnumbered and enormous polypi

Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.

There hath he lain for ages, and will lie

Battening upon huge sea worms in his sleep,

Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;

Then once by man and angels to be seen,

In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

New products added this week!

I’ve added some new products to my Etsy store

I’ve added the badges I designed in conjunction with the Kickstarter campaign for our comic. People who bought a physical copy received the whole set of pins for free, now people who missed out can get the set for just £2 here

The creatures featured are:

Angler Fish

Honeycomb eel

Goblin shark

Giant Pacific octopus

Creatures of the Deep pin set

Assorted steampunk gears

Made from upcycled brass and silver coloured gears with silver plated studs. Perfect for steampunk fans!

Cuttlefish earrings

I’ve also added these lovely hand drawn cuttlefish earrings. I drew these on shrink plastic myself and I’m really happy with how they’ve turned out!  Those of you who follow my blog are probably aware of my octopus obsession already, so I’m sure you can understand why I’d make these beauties!

Animal skull studs

Because I love biology so much I made these lovely animal studs. There’s a choice of Owl, Bear and Bull skulls and they all look really cool. Again these are hand drawn into shrink plastic by myself. I personally like the Owls the best!

Still Available!

We still have 13 out of 20 of our premium packages for those backing £20 or more to our Kickstarter campaign. The package includes a PDF copy of the finished graphic novel, a high quality printed physical copy and best of all; a custom A5 sketch by Katie, just for you and of absolutely anything you would […]

Print test of the first 11 pages of the comic.

I just wanted to see what the comic would look like so far printed and how the pages would flow, I’m relatively happy with the results so far.
Obviously the bigger the comic gets (I’m on page 23 with at least 41 left) it’ll be harder for me to do these tests so I’ll be making it in issues for my own benefit, then hopefully printing as a one volume graphic novel.

Mermaid Project.

Myself and one of my oldest friends Rebecca Taylor are currently working on a project together, we’re drawing mermaids inspired by the months of the year (and also special occasions) so far we’ve created 4 mermaids in different styles.

January- Narwhal mermaid by Rebecca

February- ringed seal mermaid by myself

March- Blue whale mermaid by Rebecca

April- Jellyfish mermaid by myself

sea slugs

Sea slugs are some of the cooler animals of the sea. The type in my picture, the Blue sea slug is particularly cool, they often get stung by jellyfish and absorb the poison and use it on other sea creatures, they’re also very beautiful! So, here’s my stupid sea slug illustration! Drawn in Photoshop, oh and I don’t think sea slugs swim like this but I thought it looked cool

Still on a water drawing kick since yesterday’s jellyfish….
